Just taking a moment to discuss wear it purple day.
It raises awareness for anti discrimination towards Lesbians, Bi-sexuals, Homosexuals or “gays” and Transgender people.
I’m hosting a day similar to this at my school, because I’m in a small school where the worst possible insult people can come up with is faggot or gay.
It really bugs me because it basically ruins any form of self confidence “closet” LGBT people may have to come out, and feel safe in a school environment.
It also bugs me how people automatically assume that if you are advocating for LGBT rights that also means you are gay.
Sure, I’m bi-sexual, but my friends who I have roped into this are all straight, and just as passionate.
Reblog if you have a heart, to help reilliterate that the stigma against LGBT people is wrong.
Feel free to message me if you are also interested in hosting a day at your school and I’d be happy to help point you in the right direction for resources etc.

Me: I'm organising a day that's against discrimination towards LGBT people
Dad: What's LGBT?
Me: Lesbians, Gays, Bi-sexuals, and Transgenders.
Dad: Oh, gays only get bullied because of how they act, it's their fault.
Me: *throws dad to the floor and punches the living daylights out of him*
Me actually: *gets up and leaves the room before screaming into a pillow and raging*
.... Yes I just reblogged myself.

I love this ad.

And, given that my current job is in social media marketing, I took notice to what was happening over on Chipotle’s Facebook wall today.

I can’t even get over how uneducated and naive people can be. Or the fact that if given the opportunity to say these things to the face of Chipotle’s CEO, in person, they wouldn’t.

Now, I recognize that social media gives people power that they wouldn’t otherwise “have,” but it saddens me to see some of the comments going on.

Yes, Chipotle is a corporation. No, they are not perfect. Yes, they are doing everything they can to reach a 100% model of sustainability.  They understand that it’s going to take time and resources to do that.  Forgive them for making a public claim of trying to be pro-farm (like how it used to be), or wanting to provide a better product for consumers.

And, don’t even get me started on the comments about hormones, antibiotics and animals on a grain-based diet.

Bravo, Chipotle, for taking a stand on an issue that so many are afraid to take a stance on. Thank you for making a better commitment to the earth, animals, the environment and your consumers.

The Meatrix!  Factory farming removing sustainable family farming…

I’m not posting this as a “don’t eat meat” statement, it’s about sustainable farming and how factory farming has taken over. It affects our environment, health, community, and regional economy.  Find local farms in your area, support them!

Know what you’re buying and consuming folks, it matters.

I’m all for advocating against factory farming… but this makes me chuckle.

MALE CHICKS & CULLING
Chick culling is the culling of newly hatched male chickens for which breeders have no use. In an industrial egg-producing facility, about half of the newly hatched chicks will be male and would grow up to be roosters, which do not lay eggs and therefore provide no incentive for the breeder to preserve. Most of the male chicks are usually killed shortly after hatching.
In industrial factory farms, chicks that are not intended for rearing are culled shortly after their sex is determined, usually before they are 72 hours old.
Several methods have been used to cull chicks:
Maceration, using a large high-speed grinder into which the chicks are fed.
Gases or gas mixtures, often carbon dioxide is used to induce unconsciousness and then death.
Cervical dislocation, manually induced dislocation of the spinal column from the skull.
Electrocution, a new method that has been touted as being cheap, reliable, and humane by its developers
Animal rights activists maintain that many of the current practices surrounding chicken slaughtering are unethical. Along with the keeping of hens in battery cages, chick culling is a main reason eggs are avoided by vegans and some vegetarians.

“Are you a fan of crime shows? This new TV ad from Voiceless: the animal protection institute might be right up your alley. Although the victims here can be seen in supermarkets around Australia and the ‘perps’ aren’t breaking any laws. So how should this show end?”

This is the video I mentioned in my earlier post about the point of this blog.

Factory farming is the process of raising livestock in confinement at high stocking density, where a farm operates as a factory — a practice typical in industrial farming by agribusinesses. The main products of this industry are meat, milk and eggs for human consumption. However, there have been issues regarding whether factory farming is sustainable and ethical.
Confinement at high stocking density is one part of a systematic effort to produce the highest output at the lowest cost by relying on economies of scale, modern machinery, biotechnology, and global trade. Confinement at high stocking density requires antibiotics andpesticides to mitigate the spread of disease and pestilence exacerbated by these crowded living conditions. In addition, antibiotics are used to stimulate livestock growth by killing intestinal bacteria. There are differences in the way factory farming techniques are practiced around the world. There is a continuing debate over the benefits, risks and ethical questions of factory farming. The issues include the efficiency of food production; animal welfare; whether it is essential for feeding the growing global human population; the environmental impact and the health risks.

FROM PLATE TO PLANET
Small decisions we make every day about what we eat can make a huge difference. Going vegan may be a big step, but simply lessening our meat consumption still goes a long way. If we all pledged to eat meat free meals throughout the week, we’d not only be healthier individuals but our planet would benefit too.
Pledge a meat free day
Do you think you could eat vegetarian for a whole day? It’s easier than you might think. There’s a ton of food that’s good for you and the environment.
Pledge a meat free month
You’re ready for a challenge. Not eating meat for only a day was a piece of cake. You found some awesome vegetarian recipes and are ready to try them out. Do you think you could eat meat free for an entire month?
Pledge to be meat free
You’re ready for a lifestyle change, whether it’s motivated by your health, the environment, animal welfare, or a combination of the three. This is a big step, but we think you can do it.
